DENNIS CONSULTING

One of the biggest hurdles in entrepreneurship isn’t failure; it’s hesitation. The quiet destroyer of dreams often isn’t a shortage of resources, but rather a mind bogged down by overthinking.
We call it anxiety. Doubt. That nagging inner voice that keeps saying,
Ø “You’re not ready.”
Ø “What if you fail?”
Ø “What if no one responds?”
But here’s what I’ve discovered over the years, both in business and in life: clarity doesn’t usually come before you take action. It comes through taking action. You don’t have to have everything figured out to start moving. The best way to quiet that anxiety is to keep making progress, even when you’re feeling it.
That’s why I’ve embraced a simple mantra: Action over anxiety - every single time.
Why Action Is the Antidote to Anxiety
Entrepreneurship requires us to dive into the unknown; time and time again. When I embarked on new projects, shifted into insurance, or launched online courses, I never had complete certainty. But what I did have was a strong belief that doing something, even if it wasn’t perfect, was far better than being paralyzed by fear.
Here’s why taking action is more important than waiting until you feel completely ready: Action breeds clarity.
Overthinking can freeze you in place. Action, on the other hand, brings things into focus. There were many times when I had no idea how something would turn out until I tried it. Your audience, your product-market fit, and your unique voice; all of it becomes clearer when you stop theorizing and start experimenting.
Action disrupts the spiral of self-doubt.
Anxiety flourishes in stillness. When you linger too long on an idea, your mind starts spinning worst-case scenarios. But the moment you take a step: whether it’s writing a post, recording a video, or sending a pitch, you break that cycle and take back control.
Momentum builds confidence.
When I launched my first digital product, I didn’t feel like an expert at all. But with every module I created, every message I received, and every person I helped, it reinforced the truth that I was already becoming the expert I once doubted I could be.
Small steps lead to big wins.
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when we’re fixated on making that giant leap. However, remember that every success is built on a foundation of small, consistent actions. Just send one email. Write one blog post. Have one meaningful conversation. That’s how you start to build momentum.
My Journey with Action-Focused Entrepreneurship
There were times when I found myself stuck in “analysis paralysis.” I had a ton of ideas for books, platforms, and products, but I kept putting things off, waiting for the perfect moment. Then it hit me:
The ideal moment is the one you create yourself. By choosing to take action instead of letting anxiety hold me back, I began to launch my ideas. I wrote that book. I created the course. I hosted the webinar. And through this process, I discovered two things I never would have realized otherwise:
Ø The people I wanted to help were already out there, waiting for me.
Ø I had more than enough resources to get started.
And guess what? So do you.
What Can You Do Today?
Here’s a quick mental checklist to help you build momentum, even when doubt is trying to take over:
Ø What’s one action I’ve been avoiding because of fear or perfectionism?
Ø What would progress look like today if I didn’t let anxiety take the wheel?
Ø Can I take just one small step that moves my idea forward?
Start small. Start even if you’re scared. But just start.
If anxiety has you feeling stuck, let action be your way forward. You don’t have to feel completely ready; you need to take that first step. Confidence will follow. Clarity will come. The results you’re aiming for will arrive: not because you waited for fear to disappear, but because you chose to act while fear was still hanging around. Don’t wait for that brave feeling to kick in. Leap first. Bravery is found in the movement.
